Criteria for Inclusion in HAPIHAPI currently indexes more than 350 academic journals with content about Latin America, the Caribbean, Brazil, and Hispanics/Latinos in the United States. We regularly include new titles to those currently indexed. When deciding to begin to index a journal, HAPI considers a number of factors. The primary criterion is that the journal regularly contains articles about Latin America, the Caribbean, Brazil, and/or Hispanics/Latinos in the United States. Journals that cover Spain or Portugal exclusively or focus on Spanish and Portuguese linguistics are currently not indexed by HAPI. Journals must also be academic, rather than popular. Journals should be peer-reviewed or refereed. Journals should also display evidence of a consistent publishing history. Currently, it is HAPI’s practice to index journals that are available in print. Even when an electronic copy is available, HAPI’s volunteer indexers use the print version to generate citations. Unfortunately, HAPI does not currently have the capability to index journals about Latin America that are written in languages other than English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, and Italian. However, if you know of a journal that meets the other criteria, but is not in one of the above languages, we would like to know.
